Island Peak, at a height of 6160 meters, is more popularly and as well known by the name of Imja Tse Peak. The peak was named Island peak by Eric Shipton's party in 1953, as the peak resembles an island in a sea of ice when viewed form Dingboche.
Later in 1983, the peak was renamed as Imja Tse. The peak was first ascended in 1953 by a British team as preparation for climbing Everest. Tenzing Norgay was one of the members who successfully ascended it.
The peak is part of the south ridge of Lhotse Shar and the main land forms a semicircle of cliffs that rise to the north of the summits of Nuptse, Lhotse, Middle Peak and Lhotse Shar. Cho Polu and Makalu lies to the east of the Island Peak. Baruntse, Amphu Laptsa and Ama Dablam lies to the south.
Travel Itinerary
1st Day: Arrival in Kathmandu, meet at the airport and transfer to Hotel
2nd Day: Fly Kathmandu - Lukla (2800 m), overnight at Phakding (2600 m)
3rd Day: Namche Bazar (3450 m)
4th Day: Acclimatisations day
5th Day: Phortse (3810m) via cross Mong
6th Day: Pheriche (4250 m)
7th Day: Lobuche (4930 m)
8th Day: Gorak Shep (5130 m)
9th Day: Everest Base Camp (5500 m), overnight at Gorak Shep (5130 m)
10th Day: Kala Pattar (5550 m), overnight at Dingboche (4350 m)
11th Day: Chukhung (4700 m)
12th Day: Chukhung Ri (5400 m) Excursion and back to Chukhung (4700 m)
13th Day: Island Peak Base Camp, (5100 m) - Camp
14th Day: Island Peak, (6190 m) - Camp
15th Day: Island Peak – Reserve day - Camp
16th Day: Tengpoche (3900 m)
17th Day: Jorsale (2810 m)
18th Day: Lukla (2800 m)
19th Day: Fly Lukla – Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel
20th Day: Kathmandu – leisure day and evening farewell dinner
21th Day: Departure to connect next destination or you may extend the trip as per your desire and time permit
